This webquest is for learning about Nuclear Energy. There are three main aspects of nuclear energy on this website: how nuclear reaction and nuclear plants work, the positive and negative aspects of nuclear energy, and what we could do to treat nuclear enery in a proper way in order to protect ourselves.

Introduction

It provides about 6% of the world's energy and 13% to 14% of the world's electricity.

Its raw material is about 40 times more common than silver, which seems inexhaustible compared with oils or gases.

It gives France the cleanest air of any industrialized country, and the cheapest electricity in all of Europe.

It is considered as the determinant or turning point of the Second World War by some people.

It is a powerful guarantee of national security.

However...

Its radioactive waste makes countless children lose their smiles forever and it is still dangerous for human beings after 10,000 years.

It is powerful enough to destroy the earth 10,000 times.

It makes 140,000 residents homeless overnight.

It causes a brutal competition among countries, which ruins our essential respect of life.

It is nuclear energy, the most formidable and mysterious power in the world.

Treasure or Disaster? Adopt or Abandon?

Let's explore the nuclear world to find the answer together!

Before we start the exploration, I hope you know...

Before this class, you already learned the structure of an object, which consists of countless atoms. Knowing the basic principle of the atom can help you to learn the new information about nuclear energy. In addition, you need to employ your reading and writing skills so that you can use computer to search the information needed. Last but not least, you should have a clear awareness of the relationship between humans and their environment.
